    Standard Drooy up?

Gold Surges to 18-Year High as Funds Buy as Inflation Hedge
Nov. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Gold futures rose to the highest in almost 18 years in New York as investors bought the precious metal as a hedge against inflation and jewelers stocked up to meet rising demand.

U.S. consumer prices are rising at a 4.9 percent annual pace, compared with 3.7 percent at the same time last year, the Labor Department said Nov. 16. Jewelry demand rose 7.6 percent in the third quarter, the World Gold Council said this month. Gold may reach $500 an ounce, UBS AG said in a report yesterday.

``A lot of funds are actually buying gold as an outright hedge, as an alternative investment,'' said Alfred Wong, who helps manage $12 billion of funds at UOB Asset Management in Singapore and holds gold mining company stocks. ``Demand appears to be holding up pretty well in spite of these high prices instead of collapsing. It's actually good testimony.''

Gold for December delivery rose as much as $6.40, or 1.3 percent, to $495.90 an ounce in after-hours trading on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest since December 1987. It traded at $493.20 at 3:17 p.m. Singapore time.

Gold for immediate delivery rose as much as $3.74, or 0.8 percent, to $495.50 an ounce, the highest since December 1987. It traded at $492.70 at 3:17 p.m. Singapore time.

    Funds

Hedge-fund managers and other large speculators increased their net-long position in New York gold futures in the week ended Nov 15, according to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission data on Nov. 18. Speculative long positions, or bets prices will rise, outnumbered short positions by 129,686 contracts on Comex. Net-long positions rose by 6,575 contracts, or 5 percent, from a week earlier.

``My target is $500,'' said Ellison Chu, manager of precious metals at Standard Bank Asia Ltd.

Investors also bought gold amid speculation central banks may add to their holdings of the precious metal. Russia's central bank said this month it may double its reserves, while the central banks of South Africa and Argentina have also said they may add to their holdings.

Central banks, mainly in the U.S. and Europe, hold almost a fifth of the world's gold supply of 2,034 metric tons as a reserve asset. Jewelry demand, which makes up 73 percent of total gold consumption, gained 7.6 percent in the third quarter, the World Gold Council said Nov. 17.

    `Retail Interest'

Speculators are betting on ``a move to the psychological level of $500 an ounce,'' David Thurtell, a commodity strategist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, said in a report today. ``Talk of central bank buying and stronger retail interest also boosted the market.''

Gold for delivery in October 2006 rose as much as 29 yen, or 1.5 percent, to 1,918 yen a gram, or 59,650 yen ($501) an ounce, on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange. That's the highest since Sept. 28, 1990, Motoko Kobayashi, an official at the exchange, said by phone. The contract settled at 1,901 yen.

Gold may rise to $500 for the first time since 1987 as investors purchase more bullion as a hedge against declining currencies, a Bloomberg survey from Nov. 17 and Nov. 18 showed. Sixteen of 28 traders, investors and analysts surveyed advised buying gold this week.

``In addition to the speculative interest relating to the $500 level, gold found support on talk of stronger retail interest in the precious metal and central bank reserve additions,'' NM Rothschild & Sons (Australia) Ltd. said in an e- mailed report today.

The majority of our production costs consist of labor, steel, electricity and water. The production costs incurred at our SouthAfrican Operations have, and could in the future, increase at rates in excess of our annual expected inflationary increase and result in the restructuring of these operations at substantial cost. The majority of our South African labor force is unionized and their wage increase demands are usually above the then prevailing rates of inflation. In October 2005, we entered into a two year wage agreement for the Blyvoor Section with the National Union of Mine Workers, or NUM, that provided wage increases of 6% as of July 1, 2005 and 6.5% as of July 1, 2006. Similar agreements for the Crown and ERPM Sections are currently being negotiated. In addition, we have received notification of price increases, far in excess of the current rate of inflation, to be imposed by our South African steel suppliers and parastatal entities which supply us with electricity and water. These, combined with the increase in labor costs, could result in our costs of production increasing above the gold price received. Discussions with suppliers to moderate price increases have so far been unsuccessful. The costs of fuels, lubricants and other oil and petroleum based products have increased in fiscal 2005 as a result of the general increase in the cost of crude oil in global markets.

    Fortschritt:

Blyvoor ended fiscal 2004 facing considerable restructuring necessitated by the combined effect of a range of issues the lowRand gold price, price increases in key consumables, operational difficulties, increased lock-up in the plant due to the ending of surface rock dump feed to the mill and poor initial recoveries from the Slimes Dam Project. As a result of operational difficulties, we also announced a 60-day review of the operations on July 28, 2004 in order to restore profitability.By the end of fiscal 2005, a significant turnaround had been achieved. While gold production from underground continuingoperations declined by approximately 30% to 137,958 ounces year on year, productivity improved by 32% to 125 grams per total employee costed. Cash costs of $456 per ounce in fiscal 2005 increased from $388 per ounce in fiscal 2004. Total costs for fiscal 2005 of $498 per ounce in the current year also shows an increase compared to $427 per ounce in fiscal 2004. While the cash operating target of $400 per ounce remained elusive, it moved within striking distance during the second half of fiscal 2005 at $407 per ounce. This compares with $498 per ounce in the first half.

    Probleme, Probleme:

For fiscal 2005, our total gold production from continuing operations decreased by 32,698 ounces, or 7%, to 433,586 ouncesfrom 466,284 ounces produced in fiscal 2004. Gold production from our continuing South African Operations decreased by 31% from 233,094 ounces produced in fiscal 2004 to 161,878 ounces in fiscal 2005. This was as a result of the poor recoveries at the Slimes Dam Project and the restructuring, which impacted productivity, completed in the second quarter of fiscal 2005 at Blyvoor. Gold production at the Australasian Operations increased by 17%, from 233,190 ounces in fiscal 2004, to 271,708 ounces in fiscal 2005. This is as a result of improved production at Porgera in the first two quarters of our financial year, reflecting higher grades and the installation of a secondary crusher. The North West Operations were placed under provisional liquidation on March 22, 2005, following a series of events culminating in a devastating earthquake, and have therefore been treated as a discontinued operation.

I've heard too that the total costs were around 550$/oz this quarter (no wonder all mines have got problems this Q).

They will produce slightly less than 400,000 Oz this year.

In June 2005 they had :

    4,250,000 Oz Proven Reserves
    1,320,000 Oz Probable Reserves
    5,570,000 Oz P&PR and a Recovery fator of 0,9

But most of them in the blyvoor mines :

    3,173,000 Oz Proven Reserves
    825,000 Oz Probable reserves
    4,000,000 Oz P&PR and a recovery factor of 0,95

Blyvoor would be sold this year to repay the investec loan for Nov 2006. With luck the proceeds would be sufficient to meet all their obligations.

After that operation the Reserve would be tiny :

    1,080,000 Oz Proven Reserves
    500,000 Oz Probable Reserves
    1,580,000 Oz P&PR and a 0,87 revovery factor

DROOY is in a position to post great profits over the next few years. The consverative analyst EPS estimates for 2006 are 4 cents, 8 cents in 2007. That will push the price of the stock to 2 and then 4 dollars. If gold goes to heights, which many are predicting say 7 or 8 hundred-dollar rage this stock could easily see 10 by the end of 2007. Compared to a stock like CDE, which is a good solid company, which is already trading near it's forward PE, under the same scenario the most could you could hope for is to double up in the next 18 months.

I did some more checking and it looks like my guess was close at 400K oz. I am fruther guessing that they got an average cost of about 435 dollar per oz, so if they lost 36.5 million then their current production costs fully wrapped is ~ 525 dollars per oz. So my guess was pretty close. So if they average 550 an oz for this year they ought to make about 7 cents per shares and with a 45 pe, they ought to be a 3 dollar stock.
So my very elementary analysis suggest that drooy might well hit 3-4 dollars this year.
I wouldnt say that was one of the better bets out there at least for this year. Now when gold starts heading to 600+ and if they do a decent job of cutting their costs, then we might have something. In the meantime, I might pick up a few shares just to get my feet wet. But I think cde, mgn, pmu and this slick one dez are probably going to outperform drooy until gold goes over 600 dollars. The other negative factor with this company is that the dollar is likely to continue its drop which will mean that even though the price of gold is going up the rand price of gold might well be flat or not go up as much. As such I would suggest that there are better pm stock to pick at this particular time. Anyone care to comment on my elementary analysis. thanks and regards

    Hallo Marcus
Habe wieder mal Dein "Christkind" Posting vom Dezember gelesen.
